NEHAWU KZN Statement On The Ongoing Crisis Facing Coastal KZN TVET College
Thursday August 11, 2022
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal is angered by the ongoing financial crisis facing Coastal KZN TVET College.
The ongoing financial crisis at the college has resulted in workers not being paid, shortage of food for students and not meeting other key financial obligations that affect teaching and learning.
As NEHAWU, we are quite clear that the crisis engulfing the college is as a result of the incompetent Administrator of the college and must be released from his duties with immediate effect. There must be an urgent forensic investigation on the state of the college finances.
We call on the Department of Higher Education and Training to appoint an Acting Principal and an Interim Council to lead the College during this phase. We reiterate our call for the removal of the college administrator.
Lastly, the department must put control measures in ensuring that workers are paid, students have food and all other financial obligations are met.
